Our First Honeymoon | Dominican Republic

Obviously, we are little behind with our personal blog posts. Everybody that’s cool knows we went to Dominican Republic last winter.  But, I’m gonna try and catch up here and dump on ya some of my favorite images.  (Laura had a ton of good ones too, but they are buried in her Instagram somewhere.)

We choose DR because flights to other warm water destinations were equivalent priced fares, and we knew once we got there we would be saving over more developed countries.

We flew into Punta Cana, which is known as the gringo all inclusive resort beach town. As we suspected, the beaches were overrun with silly excursions like jello pools, rum shot moped rides, and fake pirate ship dance parties.

We caught the first bus out of there bouncing from Airbnb to Airbnb booking.  A great experience and an easy way to travel in any country. After studying the Lonely Planet guides we booked spots that featured remote beaches, local home guest cabins, and close proximity to the island’s prized natural wonders. The President came to town and the community was stoked to catch a glimpse. “DANILO!!!!”

Catching a público (an old banged-up car or truck or van) is easy and you see the local culture up close.

A quick overnight stop  through the capital, Santo Dominca,  gave us our fill on big city architecture and nightlife.

Wild dogs are everywhere and keep an eye out for the statue paying homage to the world’s first man bun.

The beaches are as perfect as they look.  No developments hardly, just miles of warm blue water and palm trees.

Laura was way more into catching rides on the back of motorcycles.  They are only about 50 cents a ride and I never saw one wreck in ten days.  But my recent motorcycle accident (broken leg) had me on edge.

She could have laid right there all day long.

This scene with the silver horse and her rider was pretty amazing to stumble upon.

A flutist in the city night.

Honeymoon #1 was a big success.  Technically, it was before we got married, but who’s counting?!!
