When you get your hair cut at the Toni&Guy Hairdressing Academy in Bellingham you leave feeling cool and charged with the energy of chicness, and suddenly YOU are the most exciting thing in the “City of Subdued Excitement.” I had to offer my photo services for their next portfolio shoot and then 6 months later I get the call…
It was a huge production of talented staff and models. I tethered my camera to a laptop so that all of the creative direction wasn’t leaning over my shoulder the whole time. We had hairspray and a boombox and strobes; it was kind of a big deal.
…all right next to the boat launch at Lake Whatcom. (We drew a small crowd of onlookers at times, as you can imagine.)
In addition to the Toni&Guy crew, I want to give a special thanks to my dear friend Frederick Parnell for the inspiration and guidance into the world of photographing hair. (Future brides take note: he and his makeup team and available for hire. You might just end up having your hair combed with the same brushed used on Paris Hilton, Drew Barrymore, Jessica Alba, or Tyra Banks!)
Let’s do it again Toni&Guy! I got more ideas!
This black and white image stands out from the rest because it was the only unposed shot of the day. See was changing clothes or something and the sun behind her inspired me. It speaks a little more of the dynamic energy that I’m used to shooting and will probably be a stepping off point for our next session.
