On August 28th, Roche Harbor Resort, on picturesque San Juan Island, hosted a most remarkable wedding. I will let the Bride and Groom tell the story.
Arleigh + Matt write,
Our wedding day started for me (the bride) anxious about the weather. We chose Roche Harbor Resort based on the natural beauty of the garden where we planned to hold the ceremony. We woke up to gray skies and showers throughout the afternoon – of course, we had the one gloomy day bookended by unspeakably gorgeous days. All of the anxiety went away after seeing Matt during our first look. I knew that no matter where the ceremony took place, we were getting married, and continuing this amazing life we’ve started together. It also helped to laugh (a lot) during our first look. The rain prevented us from doing first look photos in the woods like we had planned. We ended up doing it in the garden in front of the hotel where all of our friends were staying, and they cat-called us from the balcony the entire time. It was hilarious. The rain eased up enough for us to hold the ceremony outside, and while we hadn’t planned on having umbrellas as a part of our day or photos, we love it and how perfectly Pacific-Northwest-y it is. In our opinion, what makes a wedding memorable is feeling the love a couple shares, along with the collection of funny things that maybe don’t go quite as planned…but give the day it’s own special character, and make you laugh when you look back. Our overall vision for the day was romantic garden with geometric elements. When researching coordinators, we found Katie + Mallory with Wonderstruck, and a beautiful hexagonal wood piece they had custom created. I fell in love with the piece, and hexagons became the thread tying everything together. Perfect, because they represent unity and balance 🙂I can’t say heap enough praise on our vendors. Katie + Mallory made our day beyond stunning and are dream to work with. We had the most delicious cakes (three flavors!) that were also works of art. And Adam, our photographer, captured the day from beginning to end absolutely beautifully. We’re still hearing from family and friends that our wedding was the most fun they’ve been to, with the best food, music and dance party, which were all very important elements to us. Music is a huge part of our relationship and was the most important part of the day for Matt. Our DJ killed it, playing a mix of 80s and 90s jams – tons of MJ, Prince and TLC.It’s hard to describe the feeling of marrying your best-friend surrounded by all of the people you love more than anything. Then dancing and partying with them all until the wee hours of the morning. Pure joy is the closest we can get, and we want to wrap ourselves up in that feeling and live in it forever. – A+M
