I first learned about this amazing family at the grocery store magazine aisle. This cover for Wooden Boat Magazine was so intriguing. The wooden double ended gaff rigged cutter screaming under tanbark sails begged the question “Wouldn’t you like to know what we have been up to?”
I bought the magazine. All 7 bucks of it. I NEVER do that.
In 2004, Bruce and Tiffany took off from Victoria, Canada bound for Hawaii. Ten years later they returned having visited over 30 countries sailing around the globe and creating two beautiful children along the way.
The last paragraph in the story ends with them settling on a little slice of heaven on our neighboring Orcas Island. I reached out to strike a friendship and its been a pleasure getting to know one another.
This summer, I popped in on them before a wedding gig and caught Bruce getting Vixen ready for a day sail.
Here’s some of my favorite images from the impromptu encounter.
(If you want to learn more about what their trip must have been like, watch this video.)
It runs in the family.
